Study Skill 3.2 Stress Management

Introduction

In study skill #3.1, Understanding Stress, you learned how to recognize and identify stress and stressors in your life. Now that we’ve established that stress is very present and difficult for teens, we need some ideas on how to manage it! To help alleviate or prevent stress, there are a variety of strategies that you can and should implement in your life now. Ultimately, it’s important to learn these strategies and try them out for yourself. Everyone will have different preferences and experiences with these techniques. Even if you are not stressed now, take some time to find the strategies that fit you best so you can prevent or better manage stress in the future!

Key Ideas

  • While there are some consistent recommendations like sleep, exercise, healthy eating, everyone will have different techniques and practices that help them manage stress best. The key is to try different recommended strategies until you find what works best for YOU, and then use those strategies to both prevent and manage stress.

  • Plan: Download the Personal Stress Management Plan Links to an external site. from the visit section. Make a plan to try out some new stress management techniques this week. Keep track of how you feel before and after each technique. Pick one or two that seem to work well and try to incorporate them into your life more consistently.
  • Digital Detox: Turn off your phone for an evening.
