Introduction
You have certainly been asked the question: Where did you come from? There are many ways to answer this question. You could reply with the city, state, or country where you were born. You could respond with a description of your family background. Your reply provides various kinds of information about you. You might call the information your history.
Just as you have a history, so does a nation. You could even ask the same kinds of questions of a nation that you ask of an individual. However, nations do not answer in the same way as people. To learn more about where a nation came from, it is necessary to study history–the artifacts, documents, and other written accounts created both by the forces of nature and the people living in the area.
In United State History A and B, you will be studying where the nation came from and how it reached its current status. You will investigate four themes important to the country’s development. US History A will cover the development of democracy in the United States as well as foreign policy. US History B will focus on the themes of social and economic history.
