Lesson 1A - Introduction
Welcome to the first lesson of Grade 7 Language Arts! Your Mizzou Academy instructors are excited to join you on your adventure through critical and creative thinking, reading, and writing as we explore the themes of Challenges and Hope, Courage, Education, and Community.
As we begin, you can picture our global classroom like the popular cartoon series, The Loud House.

Each character in the Loud family has a specific personality style. Here are some examples:
- Luna loves music.
- Lola talks a lot and has her own podcast.
- Luan is a jokester who plays lots of pranks.
- Lori is in love with Bobby.
- Lincoln loves his treehouse.
- Lynn Jr. leads at-home workouts for her viewers.
- Lana is great at fixing vehicles.
- Lisa loves to give advice to others.
Your life as a student is a little bit like the Loud family. You have some things you are really good at. So do your friends and classmates. You are different, but you all work together. Everyone’s strengths are important to the whole group.
Let’s get started!
Essential Question
What strategies can I use to make sense of new information? |
Sustainable Development Goal for Lessons 6-10
Goal 3 Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. |
In 2015, all the countries that are represented by the United Nations adopted what is known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The goals are central to our mission here at Mizzou Academy. These goals represent a "call to action" which is the purpose behind embedding them in our curriculum. We want to inspire you to connect our course content to elevated thinking about how to solve these global challenges. As you encounter them throughout our program, stop and reflect on how you can participate in making this world a better place for everyone.
