 Introduction

Welcome to the Grammar Lab portion of the course. For the Lesson 1 installation, we will be focusing on Subject, Object, and Possessive Pronouns in Standard American English. As you have learned already in the lesson, the context clues placed in a sentence are important to understanding any text. Therefore, knowing the function of these pronouns will help you write clearer sentences that communicate your message and reference the various subjects. This understanding will also help you effectively utilize close reading strategies, and reflect on the point of view of a passage. This Grammar Lab lesson helps us achieve our goal of helping our scholars form a strong foundation in grammar throughout this course, so let's learn more about Subject, Object, and Possessive Pronouns!

Connection to This Lesson

Grammar_Toolbox.png

Grammar skills are tools for writers. And just like hammers, wrenches, and drills, we first must learn what each tool does and how it works before we can then (over time and with practice) learn how to use them well and how to select which tool is the best choice for tackling a particular job.

Now that you have completed this lesson in the Grammar Lab, you have one more tool in your communication toolbox!

As you continue your work in this lesson and throughout the course, be watchful in your reading assignments for the ways that writers use Subject, Object, and Possessive Pronouns to construct their ideas. As a writer, watch for places where having this grammar tool at the ready can help you build and craft ideas of your own.
