We are pleased that you selected this global course to fulfill your unique educational needs. You are now a member of the Mizzou Academy's large and diverse student body—a student body that comes from all parts of the United States and many parts of the world.
Although the freedom to choose when and where to study is a privilege, it is also a responsibility that requires motivation and self-discipline. To succeed at self-paced learning, you will need to develop a study plan by setting realistic goals and working toward them.
Course Overview
Biology is the study of all aspects of life. The course focuses on genetics and evolution. After completing this course, students will gain the knowledge, skills, and scientific thinking to successfully pursue more advanced science courses and, more importantly, understand how all life is related. Scientific Theories taught include Genetics, Evolution, Cell Theory, & Atomic Theory. Students need a science notebook and will find success if they commit to participating in the course daily.

Course Objectives
The objective of this course is that students will be able to:
- Use the laws of the theory of genetics to make predictions about the traits of offspring.
- Explain how the sex cells of parents create totally new recombination in offspring.
- Explain the role of DNA as the basis for genetics.
- Describe major ways in which humans affect heredity.
- Classify Earth's great diversity.
- Provide evidence to explain the geologic timeline and abiogenesis.
- Offer empirical evidence for the theory of evolution.
- Describe the processes that drive evolution.
- Describe the phylogenetic tree for modern humans.
Pacing
This course can be completed in as few as six weeks or take up to 6 months (180 calendar days). The six weeks are counted from the date of the first lesson submission and not the date of enrollment.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course. High School standing is recommended.
Required Materials
No special materials are required, however, some common household items may be needed for supplemental activities.

Grades
Your final grade will be based on the number of points you earn on assignments and exams.
You will be able to see your exam percentage in the "Exams" column in your gradebook.
The following grading scale applies only to students who meet this standard:
