We are pleased that you selected this course to fulfill your unique educational needs. You are now a member of the Mizzou Academy's global student body.
Although the freedom to choose when and where to study is a privilege, it is also a responsibility that requires motivation and self-discipline. To succeed at learning, you will need to develop a study plan by setting realistic goals and working toward them.
This global course is designed through the individual sections to assist in your pacing.
Course Overview
In Physical Science, Second Half Unit, students will learn the basics of physics. They will investigate the concepts of force and motion, machines, energy, waves, and the electromagnetic spectrum. They will develop problem-solving and inquiry skills as they move through the lessons by applying what they learn to everyday situations. Scientific Theories taught include Classical Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Electromagnetism. After completing this course, students will gain the knowledge and skills to continue studying earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics.

Course Objectives
The objective of this course is that students will be able to
- Explain how to describe and measure the motion of on object
- Identify forces and describe how they affect the motion of objects
- Describe how machines do work.
- Identify types of energy and energy transformations.
- Explain how thermal energy is transferred and used.
- Describe the properties and behaviors of waves.
- Describe how we utilize waves from the electromagnetic spectrum.
- Explain the properties of light.
- Describe electricity and how we use it.
- Identify the properties of magnets and how magnets are used.
PreRequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course. High School standing is recommended.
Required Materials
No special materials are required, however, some common household items may be needed for supplemental activities.
Each activity and item listed on this document are for exploration and extension activities that are ungraded.

Grades
Your final grade will be based on the number of points you earn on assignments and exams.
The following grading scale applies only to students who meet this standard:
