Course Description

Our Grade 6 English Language Arts course supports you as a reader, writer, thinker, speaker, and listener. This course takes an integrated approach to language arts; giving you opportunities and skills to analyze poetry, memoir, essay, narrative, newspaper writing, and visuals. Our Grade 6 English Language Arts course asks you to consider why your voice matters and how you can use your stories and passions to make a positive difference in the world. Throughout the course, you will make connections between literature, course themes, and your own lived experiences. You will write creative and expository works, practice research skills, and think critically about text, ideas, and a variety of issues.

Some readings in the course are available from CommonLit.org. Materials not on CommonLit do not require a code since access is provided via various direct links on Canvas. The chart below serves as a comprehensive list of these readings, but also as a convenient quick reference for you throughout the course:

Exams

Midterm Exam

The Midterm Exam is over Lessons 1-5. Your exam is 30 questions (1 point each) and you will choose the one best answer.

There is also a writing assignment worth 45 points that will be explained to you in the appropriate module. 

Final Exam

The Final Exam is over Lessons 6-10. Your exam is 30 questions, 1 point each; Choose the one best answer.

There is also a writing assignment and video (45 points each) that will be explained to you in the appropriate module. 

Note: Before taking the exams, complete the study guide, located in the course modules. 

 EXAM GUIDELINES

 The midterm and final exams are not proctored, however, you are expected to follow these guidelines:

  • Do not use online material, course material, or other notes to take the exam.
  • Do not navigate away from the exam page during the exam. 
  • Complete the exam in one sitting.
  • You do not need any extra materials to complete this exam. 

 

Grades

Your final grade will be based on the number of points you earn versus the points available on all assignments and exams. The course grade is weighted as follows:
